The author writes to the 3rd Duke concerning the threat of the Jacobite rebels. He encloses a letter [absent] from Shawe about 100 men entering. In his second letter he describes he and Mr Twigg and tenants being gathered to prepare the land around Chatsworth near Whaley Bridge for the rebels advancing including surmising which road they might take and making cuts and filling in ditches.
