James Gisborne senior writes to the 3rd Duke largely concerning local political affairs in Derby. He mentions: Cornet Bright; Sir Crisp Gascoyne's address; lending £1000 to him and his son.

James Gisborne junior writes to Lord Hartington concerning his military affairs in Ireland. He mentions: the sloop from Rotterdam not having arrived; a sloop called Mary renamed as Industry; sending the King's boat out the harbour to meet the sloop and with hidden soldiers on board in case the vessell boarded should contain the two men expected from Rotterdam; recommending his relative Thomas Gisborne to a chaplaincy in Ireland.
