Scope and Content

These letters from William Sherwin to Lord and Lady Burlington concern his enquiries after their health. He writes of his pleasure in serving the Boyle family. He also includes in his letter to Lady Burlington advice on how to cure a child of weakness involving covering the child in blankets and then applying the milt [spleen] of a bullock to the navel as hot as the child can bear as well as rubbing joint oil acquired from the butcher to the child's joints.

He also decribes the highway robbery at Goodwood in which a pistol was fired at Lady Tankersill (CS1/199/1).
