The author writes that Lord Bedford deserves the honours that have passed to him on the death of his grandfather. He mentions having to contact the deceased Duke on matters relating to his diocese and always finding him good and easy with him. He clarifies his allegiance to Lord Bedford especially regarding some hearsay from Sir Francis Drake, Mr Ryder and others that he held resentment for the minister of Tavistock in order to oppose the Bedford interest in the town - the author denies this and writes that they have wounded Lord Bedford's interest by making it subservient to theirs. Written from Trelawny. Signed 'Jonat. Exon'. Endorsed by Lady Russell.
