Scope and Content

These letters are written by Louise-Marthe de Conflans d'Armentières, Marquise de Coigny toward the end of her life.

The letters concern the Marquise de Coigny's wish for the Duke to come and visit her and partake of the spa waters and other engagements. She mentions shared friends and acquaintences and books that she wishes to see or the Duke has sent her. There is reference to a book of the Duke's "Peerage".

All these letters have been endorsed with the dates by the 6th Duke.

Administrative / Biographical History

Coigny, Louise Marthe de Conflans d'Armentières (marquise de ; 1759- 12 Septmber 1832) daughter of Marquis d'Armentières.

It is likely the 6th Duke knew the Marquise de Coigny through his mother, Georgiana, Duchess of Devonshire and her friend Elizabeth Foster, later Duchess of Devonshire.
