Scope and Content

The Bishop writes concerning the news that the Duke of Devonshire had recommended Dr Cheyney for the position of Chancellor of the Diocese of Winchester and that it would not be the King or Walpole's decision to make but the Bishop's alone and that he intends to appoint his son when the time comes. He adds that as a mark of his respect for the Duke's reputation he will appoint Cheyney as second prebend of Winchester if he is agreeable to it. Signed "B Sarum".
