Scope and Content

In these letters the author writes in his role as a colonel in the army concerning military affairs to the 3rd Duke in his role as Lord Lieutenant of Ireland and Lord Treasurer.

Topics include: G. Parker's disappointment at not having a regiment and Ligonier's wish for the 3rd Duke to intercede with the King; the importance of consistentcy of ranks among post-holders; setting out for Cork in consideration of a threat from Spain; a suitabel place for a fort near Cork harbour; Lord Molesworth's concurrence with Ligonier; the readiness of his regiment when they are wanted.

He also writes a letter to Lord Hartington in 1755, Lord Lietenant of Ireland at the time, regarding: recommendations to posts for Colonel Conway and Captain Graham; congratualting Lord Hartington on his administration; preparing for attack from neighbours (CS1/280/4).
