These two letters from Patrick Hume, Lord Polwarth and later Lord Marchmont are written to Rachel, Lady Russell and her daughter Lady Devonshire. The first letter concerns Lord Polwarth's request for Lady Russell's help when she sees his son, in settling him and advising him against following the war as he seems want to do.
The second letter to Lady Devonshire concerns his request that she pass a letter he has written for the Queen on to her and try and ascertain how the Queen responds to it, in an attempt to elevate the interest of Lord Marchmont's family in this country.
