Scope and Content

These letters written from Lord Herbert (later Lord Powis) mostly to the 3rd Duke concerning the Jacobite rising and the raising of militias.

To the 3rd Duke he mentions: the Duke of Athol; Lord George Murray; Lord Dunmore; General Cope; Sir Robert Monro; Mr Pelham; the treaty with Prussia; the movement of the rebels; the taking of Edinburgh bythe rebels; the need for associations in defence of the country against the rebels; troops expected from Flanders; General Wentworth; the preference for associations over militias; an account of the drawing up of an association and voluntary subscription in Shropshire.

To Lord Hartington he writes news of his wife's birth to their son.
