In these letters the author writes concerning his friendship with the 3rd Duke of Devonshire and hoping for the same from Lord Hartington. He writes of his bad treatment from Mr Pelham and his views on how to handle the potential invasion of Ireland, following a lack of consultation by previous viceroys of Ireland. He writes to inform Lord Hartington of his request for a peerage and the reasons for it as well as his request for a reversionary grant of the Aulnegers Place for 45 years after Mr Weston's death. He also mentions his wife's impatience that he should be made a Viscount as Lord Hartington has agreed. He also mentions his second cousin, Richard Jones, who he wishes to recommend for a position in the army.
