The author writes concerning Irish political affairs.
To the 3rd Duke he writes concerning: his gladness at having the support of the Duke of Devonshire and his family and later when Lord Hartington becomes Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, he writes concerning his position in the government of Ireland. He and Lord Bessborough ask for the 3rd Duke's support in maintaining his position in the Government and rejects that any failings of the last government were anyone's fault but the Duke of Dorset's. He assures the 3rd Duke of his allyship with Lord Bessborough, despite rumours to the contrary, and confirms his willingness to support Lord Hartington's administration.
To Lord Hartington, Lord Lieutenant of Ireland (1755-1757) he writes concerning Lord Hartington's appointment and his own position as Primate of Ireland. He writes to assure Lord Hartington of his pleasure at his appointment and his strong union with Lord Bessborough despite reports and also to apologise for bringing this matter to the 3rd Duke before Lord Hartington. He wishes to persuade Lord Hartington of his commitment to serve his administration in the way Lord Hartington sees best, even if it is in a "narrower sphere" than before and his woundedness at the suspicions cast upon him. He also mentions Mr Hill and his opinion about restoring the Speaker.
