Scope and Content

These copy letters are addressed mostly to the 6th Duke's sister Harriet. They concern: his happiness for Harriet and Lord Granville; his opinion of Peel; a description of rue de Paris; overtiring himself walking; seeing one of the Duke of Orlean's travellers; his niece Blanche; family history at Holkham; people he has seen and had news from; descriptions of events at parliament and in social settings; the drowing of Sir Gore's family on return from India; a sketch of a dinner party held with Lord and Lady Burlington; a book he likes called "The Difficulties of Infidelity"; Mr Muller and not wanting to engage a foreign servant; Blanche's stillbirth; and news from Dieppe where he has travelled for his health.

There is also one letter addressed to the Duke of Wellington concerning Hyderabad.

Some of these letters to Harriet have "Found among the 1837 letters but perhaps misplaced" written about them.
