Scope and Content

In these letters the author writes to Lord Hartington concerning: his concern that Sir Nathaniel should succeed to a title he believes to be promised to him; visiting Derby to see Lord Hartington and also seeing Rivett and Gisborne there and; his planned trip to Oxfordshire.

To the 3rd Duke he writes concerning: the new commission [of magistrates for Derby] and a list of potential candidates including Mr Coke who is impatient to be made a magistrate and; Mr Curzon being the Knight of the Shire.
