Marsh studied medicine at Owens College Manchester, he was house surgeon to MRI before being appointed senior house surgeon to Macclesfield General Infirmary in 1894. Marsh then entered general practice in Macclesfield. He was also honorary surgeon at Macclesfield Infirmary, medical superintendent to the Isolation Hospital, surgeon to the police, school medical officer and medical officer of health. He was a fellow of the Royal Institute of Public Health. Marsh was an active member of BMA, he was president of the Lancashire and Cheshire Branch in 1928 and was chairman of the Stockport Division. He also was on the representative body of the BMA and a member of the Insurance Acts Committee. Marsh was a JP and an honorary life member and examiner to the St John Ambulance Association. He died on 6 June 1929, aged 59.
