Lacey studied medicine at the Royal College of Surgeons, Ireland. He practised in Oldham where he was medical officer and public vaccinator for Thornham and Royton District, police surgeon, certifying factory surgeon, and medical referee for a number of assurance companies. He later practised in Chorlton-cum-Hardy, near Manchester, with his son Frank Hamilton Lacey. Lacey died sometime between 1909 and 1920.
