Henry Taylor Lamb, 1883-1960.

The son of Horace Lamb, professor of maths at the University of Manchester, Lamb was born in Australia in 1883. He was brought up in Fallowfield, Manchester and educated at Manchester Grammar School. Although he showed an early artistic talent, Lamb conceded to parental pressure and in 1902 became a medical student at Owens College Manchester. Lamb drew many cartoons and sketches for Manchester University Medical Students Gazette and Manchester University Magazine. However, Lamb left Manchester in 1905 to pursue his artistic career in London. Lamb was one of the Bloomsbury Set, and a portrait by him of Lytton Strachey is his best known work.
