Khan studied at Khyder Medical College. He was registrar at Sheffield Royal Hospital and Mansfield and District Hospital before being appointed senior registrar in radiology for Sheffield Area Health Authority. Khan was later appointed consultant radiologist for North Manchester Health District and was also part-time lecturer at the University of Manchester.
