Lachs was a doctor in Whitefield, near Manchester. He was sued in 1947 by a patient claiming that his negligence while treating her arthritis with the 'gold treatment' had caused dermatitis. He later changed his name from Lachs to Lacks and commenced practice in Chorlton-cum-Hardy, near Manchester.
