Levy was born in Manchester on 28 June 1927. He was educated at Manchester Central High School for Boys and Manchester Medical School. After qualifying, Levy held junior appointments at Manchester Victoria Jewish Memorial Hospital, Crumpsall Hospital Manchester, and Ashton Infirmary. He began his career in pathology at Crumpsall Hospital in 1955 before being appointed registrar in clinical pathology at MRI in 1958, and later became senior registrar. Levy was a member of MMS. Levy was ill for many years and died, after a major operation, on 2 October 1959.
