John Sandys Pooley, 1889-1942.

Pooley, the son of Dr William Pooley of Rochdale, gained his medical education at Cambridge and St Thomas's Hospital. He served in the RAMC then took the public health diploma at Cambridge and worked in Nottingham as assistant pathologist. In 1925 Pooley returned to Rochdale and founded the Broadfield Clinical Laboratory, where he carried out his private practice, and also the pathological work of the Rochdale Infirmary, of which he was honorary pathologist, and the public health bacteriology for the Rochdale area. Pooley died on 2 May 1942.
