After qualifying, Leigh began research work with Dr S.R. Wilson, and continued with him in this work until his death. Leigh was visiting anaesthetist to MRI and on the death of Wilson became honorary anaesthetist to Manchester Dental Hospital. Leigh was also honorary anaesthetist to St Mary's Hospital Manchester and the Northern Hospital for Women and Children, and visiting anaesthetist to Booth Hall Infirmary, Blackley. She was the sister of Dr Gertrude B. Leigh of Sunderland and the wife of J.R. Johnson (though she continued to practice under her maiden name). Leigh died on 24 August 1934 shortly after childbirth.
