Lendrum, the son of George MacCormack Lendrum and the grandson of John Black Lendrum (see below), studied medicine at Cambridge and Middlesex Hospital. He held junior positions at Middlesex Hospital before being appointed senior surgical registrar in the department of plastic and jaw surgery at Frenchay Hospital, Bristol. Lendrum was later appointed consultant plastic surgeon to Withington, Booth Hall and Monsall Hospitals in Manchester, and to Rochdale and District Hospital Group. Lendrum was a member of the British Association of Plastic Surgeons and the British Society for Surgery of the Hand.
