Administrative / Biographical History

Pollard was professor of anaesthetics at the University of Manchester. He had studied pharmacy at London and medicine at Sheffield, qualifying in 1977 (gaining his MD in 1991). Pollard held appointments in Sheffield, Derbyshire and Nottingham before being appointed senior registrar at part-time lecturer in anaesthesia at the University Hospital of South Manchester. He spent a year in Michigan, USA, before returning to Manchester, holding anaesthetics appointments at MRI, the Children's Hospitals and Wythenshaw Hospital. Pollard was appointed senior lecturer in 1985, and was also honorary consultant anaesthetist to MRI and South Manchester Hospitals.
