Trained at St Bartholomew's Hospital where he was also house surgeon. Held registrar positions at Maudsley Hospital and Hammersmith Hospital. Consultant psychiatrist at Withington Hospital from 1970s until 1990s, director of the Alcoholism Treatment Unit opened there in 1977 and also in charge of the Alcoholism Treatment Centre at Prestwich Hospital. Hore was also honorary lecture in psychiatry at the University of Manchester. He specialized in alcoholism and was internationally recognised for his work. Hore was a member of the Society for the Study of Addiction.
