Lancashire was born in Middleton in 1866 and was educated at Manchester Grammar School and Owens College Manchester. He later went to Brussels to take a doctorate specialising in dermatology, and also spent some time in Vienna which was well known for its pioneering work in the subject. When Lancashire returned to Manchester he was appointed assistant medical officer to Manchester and Salford Hospital for Diseases of the Skin, where he was later elected to the honorary staff. Lancashire worked entirely as a skin specialist. He was a member of the London Dermatological Society and lecturer on diseases of the skin at the University of Manchester from 1913. Lancashire was also honorary dermatologist to Cheetham Hospital and the Royal Schools of the Deaf at Old Trafford, and had a large private practice. Lancashire was a fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine, and of Manchester Medical and Pathological Societies. He died on 20 November 1945.
