McCrea was house surgeon to Birmingham General Hospital before coming to Manchester where she was resident medical officer and later honorary physician to Manchester Babies Hospital. She was also obstetrician to Crossley Maternity Hospital Manchester, surgical registrar and surgical assistant to Ancoats Hospital Manchester and surgical assistant to Stretford Hospital. McCrea died, along with her husband Edward D'Arcy McCrea (see below) and two children, in an air raid in December 1940.
