Jōdenshū 貞傳集 [貞伝集]

Variant title: Shindenshū 心傳集 [心伝集]. Author/compiler: Myōjō 明貞, fl. early 15th century, original author (口述). Text recorded (執筆) from Myōjō's verbal exposition by Ry#gyō 了曉, Jōdo monk, d. 1483. Imprint: [Kyōto] Suzuki Tahē, Kanbun 12, 1672. Kanki, in a small frame on fol. 36a of maki 下末, reads: 書舎 ／ 寛文十二壬子年仲秋吉祥日 ／ 鈴木太兵衛板行,. Description: 2 kan (上 and 下), each subdivided into hon 本 and matsu 末, rebound in 1 vol. western style. (Maki 上, 本) ff. 1-2 (目録), 3-6 (心傳集書跋), 7-26 (本文); (maki 上, 末) ff. 31; (maki 下, 本) ff. 2 (目録), 27; (maki 下, 末) ff. 36. 27.4 x 18.2 cm. Fukurotoji. Blockprint. Printing frame 21.2 x 16.6 cm. (average). Single-line borders. Fishtail design on hanshin. Katakana-majiri and kanbun text with printed okurigana and kaeriten. 10 lines to page, 20 characters to line. Mid-blue covers, possibly original, with renewed title slip bearing manuscript gedai: 貞傳集. Naidai at head of text of maki 上, hon 本 and matsu 末: Jōdenshū 貞傳集; at head of maki 下, hon 本 and matsu 末: Shindenshū 心傳集. Additional title slip pasted on mikaeshi of front cover: Teidenshū 貞傳集 (テイデンシウ). Hashiragaki: Jōden 貞傳上本 (末) + folio no; Shinden 心傳下本 (末) + folio no. In a western style half-leather binding. Edition: The only pre-modern edition recorded. Contents: A miscellany dealing with a variety of topics relating to the history and doctrines of Japanese Buddhism. Expounded by the monk Myōjō 明貞 and taken down in writing by Ryōgyō 了曉, according to a note on fol. 7a of maki 上.
