Variant title: Shinpan e-iri kyōgenki, gai 新板繪入狂言記外 [新板絵入狂言記外]. Author/compiler: Unknown. Imprint: Kyōto, Noda Yahē; Ōsaka, Morita Shōtarō; Edo, Noda Jūbē, Genroku 13, 1700. Kango on fol. 26b of maki 5 reads: 右狂言記外五十番雖為秘密任御所 / 望写之令板行者也せりふ詞遣或ハ / 假名遣惡き事可有之併狂言綺語也 / 元禄十三庚辰五月吉日 / 京寺町通二條下ル町 / 野田彌兵衛 / 大坂北御堂前 / 毛利田庄太郎 / 江戸石町拾軒店 / 野田重兵衛. Description: 5 kan, 5 satsu, rebound in 1 vol. western style. (Maki 1), ff. [1] (目録), 28; (2) ff. [1] , 25; (3) ff. [1] , 28; (4) ff. [1] , 26; (5) ff. [1] , 26. 21.9 x 15.8 cm. Fukurotoji. Blockprint. Printing frame 18 x 14.2 cm. (average). Single-line borders. No fishtail design on hanshin. Hiragana-majiri text, with printed fiurigana and triangular black marks to indicate actors' lines. 11 lines to page, 23-26 characters to line. Renewed brick-red front cover of satsu 1 only, with manuscript title slip bearing gedai: Ehon kyōgenki 繪本狂言記. Title from mokurokudai at head of each maki. No other naidai. Hashiragaki: Kyōgenki 狂言記 + maki no. + folio no. In a modern western style half-leather binding. Edition: The only known edition of the series of kyōgen plays recorded under this title. 3 other series, containing different plays, were published between Manji 3 (1660) and Kyōhō 13 (1728), and re-issued in subsequent years. Contents: Second in the series of kyōgen text collections, known collectively as Kyōgenki, published to promote interest in kyōgen drama. Titles of the other series, each comprising 50 plays, are E-iri kyōgenki 繪入狂言記, E-iri zoku kyōgenki 繪入續狂言記 and E-iri kyōgenki shūi 繪入狂言記拾遺. A mokuroku is printed at the head of each maki of the present set.
