Scope and Content

Author/compiler: Ōmura Yūko 大村由己, d. 1596. Imprint: N.p., n.d. [c. Genna period, 1615-24] . No kanki. The printed oku dated Keichō 15 (1610) on last folio recto of maki 9 reads: 慶長十五年三月十三日 / 太田和泉守記之. (See under Edition below.). Description: 9 kan, formerly in 9 satsu, rebound in 1 vol. western style. (Maki 1) ff. [22]; (maki 2) ff. [25]; (3) ff. [11]; (4) ff. [17]; (5) ff. [25]; (6-7) ff. [33]; (8) ff. [21]; (9) ff. [18] (folios unnumbered). 27 x 19.5 cm. Fukurotoji. Movable type. Printing frame 23.5 x 17.6 cm. No borders. No printed hanshin. Hiragana-majiri text without furigana. 12 lines to page, 21 characters to line. Brown front cover of brittle acidic paper, probably dating from early Meiji period when the 9 kan were bound in 1 satsu. Now rebound in half-leather, western style. Handwritten title slip, also Meiji period, bearing gedai: 天正記 全. Title from naidai at head of text. Edition: The second movable type edition of this work. The okuzuke signed by Ōta Izumi-no-kami 太田和泉守 and dated Keichō 15 (quoted under Imprint above) was taken over from the original manuscript and incorporated in the printed editions. It refers to the date of composition of the work, not of printing. Contents: An account of military events centred on Toyotomi Hideyoshi in the Tenshō period (1573-92), written between 1580 and 1590. It describes the defeat of the Takeda 武田 faction by Hideyoshi and his subsequent pacification measures. The work incorporates the Taikō gunki 太閤軍記 of Ōta Gyūichi 太田牛一 with the text of Ōmura's Tenshōki.
