(上) ff. 41; (下) ff. 44. 28 x 17.6 cm. Fukurotoji. Blockprint, modelled on a movable type edition. Printing frame 21.2 x 15.5 cm. Double-line borders all round. Vertical rules between columns. 'Flower petal' fishtail design on hanshin. Kanbun text with printed okurigana and kaeriten. 9 lines to page, 18 characters to line. Original brown front cover of satsu 上 only. No title slip or gedai. Title from naidai. Hashiragaki: Rōshi kōgi 老子口義 jō 上 (ge 下) + folio no. Edition: Kokatsujiban no kenkyū distinguishes four kokatsuji editions, all undated, two published in Keichō and two in Genna period. The present copy bears some resemblance in its hanshiki to the 9-line Genna edition but there are obvious differences, and this is clearly an unrecorded blockprinted edition. None of the movable type editions has printed kunten. Contents: Explanatory lectures on the Daode-jing 道德經 of Laozi.

- 1 volume Condition: Very good. Minimal worm damage to first 12 leaves. Impression: Near-shozuri, but with some over-inking, causing an uneven impression. Seals of ownership: None. Manuscript notes: Kutōten and shubiki 朱引 in red ink throughout text, also a few headings and textual notes in upper margins, all dating probably from late-Edo period. One-line shikigo, dated Tenpō 14 (1843) but unsigned, on outer edge of mikaeshi, recording that the book had been read and studied in that year.
