No colophon, but batsubun written by the compiler ends with the date Genna 6, 1620. This is not the date of publication, even of the Genna movable type edition on which this blockprint is based. Last line of batsubun reads: 元和六年秋七月日 羅浮子 道春謹書. Description: 2 kan, formerly in 2 satsu, now rebound in 1 vol. western style. (上) ff. 27; (下) ff. 39. 27.8 x 18.8 cm. Fukurotoji. Blockprint. Printing frame 22.3-22.7 x 16.8 cm. Single-line borders all round. Fishtail design on hanshin. Kanbun and katakana-majiri text, with printed kunten in the former and kutōten in the latter. 9 lines to page (large characters), 17 lines (small characters); 16 characters to line (large characters), 19-23 characters (small characters). No pre-modern covers retained, hence no title slips or gedai. Title from naidai. Hashiragaki: Shigenshō jō (ge) 巵言抄上 (下) + folio no. In a western style half-cloth binding. Edition: Reprint (fukkoku 覆刻) from newly-cut blocks, of a movable type edition published in, or soon after, Genna 6 (1620). The original Genna 6 batsubun (quoted above) is retained in the present blockprinted edition. Contents: Sayings and maxims quoted from Chinese classical works, selected with explanatory commentary by Hayashi Razan. Commentary in smaller script.

- 1 volume Condition: Good, apart from minor worm damage (unrepaired), chiefly in margins, and a few water stains. Impression: Fairly sharp, but blocks show slight signs of wear. Seals of ownership: Oblong red seal of Sir Ernest Satow, 英國薩道藏書, on first page of maki 上 and 下. Small oblong red seal, Hōshun shoin shozō 芳春書院所蔵, also on first page of both maki. Small square blue seal (unidentified) on first page of maki 上 and 下 and last page of maki 下.
