    • 1 volume Condition: Good, apart from minor worm damage in upper margins of a few maki. Book cropped at upper edge. Impression: Atozuri, from blocks showing signs of moderate wear. Illustrations: Each maki contains sumizuri illustrations depicting temples, shrines and princely mansions in and around Kamakura. Seals of ownership: None.

Scope and Content

Author/compiler: Mostly compiled by Kawai Tsunehisa 河井恒久, also known as Yūsui 友水. Revised by Matsumura Kiyoyuki 松村清之. Augmented and completed by CHIKARAISHI Tadakazu (or Chūichi) 力石忠一. Imprint: [Kyōto] , [Ryūshiken] Tazaemon, Shōtoku 3, 1713. Kanki on unnumbered folio following publisher's batsu at end of maki 8 reads: 正德三年癸巳正月吉旦 / 六角通御幸町西入 書林多左衞門. Description: 8 kan, formerly in 8 satsu, rebound in 1 vol. western style. (Maki 1) ff. 1, [1] , 36; (2) ff. 3, 87; (3) ff. 2, 92; (4) ff. 2, 44; (5) ff. 2, 24; (6) ff. 2, 36; (7) ff. 3, 57; (8) ff. 2, 32, 2 (跋), [1] . 25.7 x 18 cm. Fukurotoji. Blockprint. Printing frame 20.9 x 15.9 cm. Double-line borders, with single fishtail design on hanshin. Katakana-majiri text, with printed furigana, with some kanbun interspersed and an endnote (後序) in kanbun. 10 lines to page, c. 20 characters to line. Original buff front cover of satsu 1 only, with original printed title slip. Gedai: 新編鎌倉志一. Title from naidai at head of each maki. Hashiragaki: same as naidai and gedai + maki no. + folio no. In a modern western style half-leather binding. Edition: The only recorded pre-modern edition. Publisher's closing note (後序) following fol. 32 of maki 8 is dated Jōkyō 2 (1685) and reads: 貞享二年歳次乙丑八月吉旦 / 洛下書林 / 柳枝軒茨木方淑識. This is followed by a 1-folio list of 16 works published by Ryūshiken Hōdō 柳枝軒方道 in Kyōto, and sponsored officially by the Shōkōkan 彰考館, an editorial office and library set up by Tokugawa Mitsukuni of Mito to compile the Dai Nihonshi 大日本史. The kanki noted under Imprint above follows this list. Contents: History and topography of Kamakura, based on extensive research by the compiler. The most reliable and authoritative work of its kind to be produced in the Edo period. Introductory maki, containing prefaces, etc., is missing from this copy.
