    • 1 volume Condition: Good, apart from water stains in maki 1-3 and 7. Impression: Fairly sharp and clear, with only slight block wear. Illustrations: 21 double-page sumizuri illustrations, 3 to each maki, in typical ko- jōruri style with figures of large size, often with bulging eyes. Seals of ownership: Oblong red seal in double frame, Kanga bunko 閑雅文庫 (seal of Satake Yoshimichi 佐竹義路), on first page of text. Manuscript notes: Date in black ink on back cover: 明治三年 [=1870] 午九月朔日.

Scope and Content

Author/compiler: Unknown. Author of primary work was Miura Jōshin 三浦淨心, 1565-1644. Imprint: [Edo] , Urokogataya Magosaburō, Genroku 10, 1697. Kanki on last page of maki 7 reads: 元禄十年正月吉日 / 大傳馬三町目 / うろこかたや孫三郎板. Publisher's name is printed at the end of each maki, sometimes in the form 鱗形屋開板. Description: 7 kan, 1 satsu, protected by a loose wrap-around case. (1) ff. 14; (2) ff. 14; (3) ff. 14; (4) ff. 14; (5) ff. 14; (6) ff. 14; (7) ff. 14. First and fourth folios of each maki are numbered 初二 and 五六 respectively. 21.3 x 15.1 cm. Fukurotoji. Blockprint. Printing frame 17.2 x 12.4 cm. (average). Single-line borders. Hanshin blocked in black at top and bottom, but no fishtail design. Hiragana-majiri text (kana predominating), printed in a densely-packed cramped style of script, characteristic of shirami-bon 虱本. 16 lines to page, variable no. of characters to line. Original vermilion covers, now partially oxidised, with embossed hexagonal pattern. No title slip. Manuscript gedai: 北条五代記 元禄うろこかたや刋 完. Title from naidai at head of each maki. Hashiragaki: Hōjō 北条 + maki no. + folio no. Edition: The only Edo-period edition of this work in ko-jōruri 古浄瑠璃 form. Contents: A ko-jōruri shōhon 古浄瑠璃正本 (playbook for chanting, containing a certified jōruri text) derived from Miura Jōshin's historical narrative of the same title.
