Scope and Content

Author/compiler: Chōzen 澄禪, Shingon monk, d. 1680. Imprint: N.p., Kanbun 8, 1668. Oku reads: 寛文戊申秋八月日書 / 廻向無上大菩提 沙門澄禪 悔焉. Description: 1 kan, 1 satsu, rebound in western style. ff. 9. 26 x 18.6 cm. Fukurotoji. Blockprint. Printing frame 22.5 x 7.4 cm. Single-line borders with fishtail design on hanshin. Kanbun text with printed kunten, mixed with some siddham script. 10 lines to page, 14 characters to line. Original dark blue covers, with handwritten title slip on left, within a western style cloth binding. Manuscript gedai: 悉曇連聲集全. Naidai and gedai identical. Hashiragaki: Renjō 蓮声 + folio no. Edition: Earliest recorded edition. Followed by a reprint, according to Bussho kaisetsu daijiten 仏書解説大辞典, in Enpō 9 (1681). Kokusho sōmokuroku 国書総目録 gives date of reprint (or new edition) as Enpō 8 (1680). Contents: On the sounds of Sanskrit expressed in siddham script.
