    • 3 volumes Condition: Generally good. Some folios soiled and stained, but no worm damage. Impression: Shozuri or near. Illustrations: Sumizuri sketches of hanging scrolls, bonsai, ikebana, tea wares, house ornaments and garden designs, on almost every page. Seals of ownership: None.

Scope and Content

Author/compiler: Not recorded. Likely to be the work of Endō Genkan 遠藤元閑, writer of the preface. Imprint: Rakuyō [Kyōto] , Umemura Yaemon, Genroku 5, 1692. Kanki on fol. 33b of maki 下 reads: 元禄五壬申年孟春日 / 書林洛陽五條橋砌 / 梅村彌右衛門壽梓. Description: 3 kan, 3 satsu, in a box. (Maki 上) ff. [1] (序), 20; (maki 中) ff. 15; (maki 下) ff. 1-10, 11 / 15, 16-33. 21.3 x 16 cm. Fukurotoji. Blockprint. Printing frame 18.5 x 14.6 cm. (average). Single-line borders. No fishtail design on hanshin. Hiragana-majiri and katakana-majiri text, with few furigana. Variable no. of lines to page and characters to line. Renewed cloth covers, late Edo period, with colour-printed designs of artists' seals in ornamental frames. New plain endpaper, not pasted down on inner covers. Renewed title slips painted silver, now tarnished. Manuscript gedai: 雪月集. Title from naidai at head of each maki. Hashiragaki: 上, 下 (lacking from maki 中) + folio no. Edition: First edition, in 2 kan according to Kokusho sōmokuroku 国書総目録, but some copies (including those in Waseda, Hibiya (Kaga Bunko) and the present copy) have a middle volume sub-titled 古今名物茶入茶碗之圖. Later editions followed in Enkyō 3 (1746) and Bunka 14 (1817). Contents: An illustrated work with short descriptive text on paintings, room ornaments, gardens and adjuncts to the tea ceremony.
