Imprint: [Edo] , Enjakudō [= Hiranoya Kichibē 平野屋吉兵衞] , Genroku17, 1704. Kanki on fol. 75a reads: 元禄十七甲申載孟春朔旦 / 武陽城之西北牛込魚肆 書林燕萑 (ママ) [ = 雀] 堂 藏版. Description: 4 kan, 1 satsu, in a chitsu case. ff. 75. Continuous foliation; no breaks in text between one maki and the next. 22.8 x 16.1 cm. Fukurotoji. Blockprint. Printing frame 17.8 x 13.3 cm. (average). Single-line borders round each individual page. No fishtail design on hanshin. Hiragana-majiri text, with printed furigana and kutōten. 10 lines to page, 20-22 characters to line. Renewed light blue covers without title slip. Manuscript gedai in gyōsho script on left of cover: さらしなの日記. Title from naidai at head of maki 1. Hashiragaki: [no title] , maki no 1 (etc.) 巻之一 (等) + folio no. Edition: The earliest printed edition, followed by the only other pre-modern edition in Tenpō 9 天保九年 (1838). Contents: Diary of the daughter of Sugawara no Takasue, a lady inclined towards fantasy and romanticism, recording emotional events in her life and illuminated by many waka poems. Written c. 1060.

- 1 volume Condition: Good. Only slight soiling and stains on first few folios. Some folios split along fore-edge. Impression: Shozuri or near. Illustrations: 17 single-page sumizuri woodcuts on ff. 3a, 7a, 13a, 19a, 23a, 27b, 32a, 37a, 41a, 45b, 49a, 53b, 59a, 63a, 67b, 70a and 73b. Seals of ownership: Small red seal, printed inkoku, (not deciphered), on fol. 1a. Manuscript notes: Genealogical table of the Sugawara family on mikaeshi. A few headnotes in black in upper margins. Interlinear textual notes and shubiki in red scattered throughout the text.
