Variant title: Ise monogatari kikigaki 伊勢物語聞書. Variant title: Shōmonshō 肖聞抄. Author/compiler: Shōkaku 肖柏, renga poet, also known as Botanka 牡丹花, 1443-1527. Written by Shōhaku on the basis of discourses delivered by the renga poet Sōgi 宗祇 in 1477. Imprint: [Saga, near Kyōto] , Yasokusō (=Nakanoin Michikatsu 中院通勝), Keichō 14, 1609. Dated kango on last folio, recto and verso, reads: 此一册可書進之由蒙 勅定之時子 / 細看之談宗祇法師所 令添削畢 / 夢庵子 / 右抄者肖柏老人所傳之作也仍号之 / 肖聞然依 後土御門院仰手自書 / 進之云 尓降世皆弄之猶元凱注左 / 氏也彼翁者予祖之餘流庶弟也今爲 / 挍讎亦有故者乎 新刋之時作三策了 / 慶長己酉季春上浣 / 也足叟 素然印. The signature Sonen 素然 is handwritten by Nakanoin Michikatsu himself and is followed by a square black seal, printed inkoku, reading 自得. Description: 1 kan (of 3), 1 satsu, in a chitsu case of yellow silk brocade. Incomplete copy, comprising maki 下 only. ff. [48] . Folios unnumbered. 25.9 x 18 cm. Fukurotoji. Movable type, except for kango which is blockprinted. Printing frame 22.5 × 16 cm. (average). No borders. No printed hanshin. Hiragana-majiri text without furigana. 9 lines to page, c. 17 characters to line. Mica-painted off-white covers, old but probably not original, sprinkled with gold and silver kirihaku squares and lines on inner surface. Text printed on thick paper, heavily impregnated with gofun, dyed in different colours: white (predominating), pale yellow, deeper yellow, pink, pale blue, grey-green, pale grey and dark grey. No gedai or naidai. Title from internal evidence. Edition: Saga-bon, designed and printed by Hon'ami Kōetsu 本阿彌光悦 and Suminokura Soan 角倉素庵. Text revised for printing by Nakanoin Michikatsu (see kango above). Contents: A commentary on the 10th century classic Ise monogatari 伊勢物語.

- 1 volume Condition: Corners of ff. 1-5 soiled, otherwise good. First 17 folios and front cover damaged at upper edge, but skilfully repaired by urauchi patching. Impression: Type shows distinct signs of wear, reinforcing doubts whether this copy is of the first edition. Seals of ownership: None.
