    • 6 volumes Condition: Excellent. Very slight worm damage, not affecting text. Impression: Clear and sharp. Seals of ownership: Large rectangular black seal, Kuhonji zōhōn 九品寺藏本, on mikaeshi of maki 1, and small circular seal on first printed page. Manuscript notes: Short notes in different hands on back endpaper of each maki, variously dated Genna 5 (1619), Genna 6 (1620) and Jōō 2 (1653), signed by monks of the Daisenji 大山寺, Kōyasan.

Scope and Content

Variant title: Jūjūshinron kōmyōmoku 十住心論廣名目 [十住心論広名目]. Author/compiler: In'yū 印融, Shingon monk, 1435-1519. Imprint: [Kōyasan 高野山] , Jōzen 淨善, Genna 3, 1617. Kanki on fol. 43b of maki 6 reads: 元和三丁巳年十一月廿二日 / 尾州住丹下淨善開板. Description: 6 kan, 6 satsu. (1) ff. 1, 38; (2) ff. [1] , 42; (3) ff. 2, 49; (4) ff. 2, 52; (5) ff. 2, 61; (6) ff. 1, 43. 27.8 x 19.8 cm. Fukurotoji. Movable type. Printing frame 23-24.5 x 17.8 cm. No borders or vertical rules. Fishtail design on hanshin. Kanbun text with printed kaeriten, okurigana and okototen in katakana. 9 lines to page, 20-21 characters to line. Pale buff covers, probably not original. Title slip missing from maki 1. Renewed title slips on maki 2-6. Manuscript gedai on all maki : Jūjūshin kōmyōmoku maki... 十住心廣名目巻・・・ . Naidai identical. Hashiragaki: Myōmoku 名目 + maki no. + folio no. Edition: Kōya-ban. This appears to be the earliest known edition. The publisher of this Genna 3 edition, the monk Jōzen 淨善, was responsible for printing many Kōya-ban editions in the Keichō, Genna and Kan'ei periods. Contents: A complete listing of the 254 headings in Jūjūshinron (=Himitsu mandara jūjūshinron 秘密曼荼羅十住心論), a commentary on ten stages of spiritual development by Kūkai 空海 (Kōbō Daishi), with references to earlier commentaries and with In'yu's own explanatory notes. Each maki contains a printed batsu signed by In'yū in his 76th year, dated Eishō 7, 1510, recording that the work was compiled at the request of Senjunbō 仙順房 of Kōyasan.
