    • 2 volumes Condition: Good. A clean well-preserved copy, but with minor worm damage (not repaired). Printed text of ff. 11-15, maki 18, missing but replaced in manuscript. Impression: Fair. Type shows marked signs of wear. Seals of ownership: None. Manuscript.notes: Kunten and kaeriten in black ink added to main text (本文) shortly after publication of the work. A few shubiki and kutōten in red in maki 1 and 2.

Scope and Content

Author/compiler: Huang Tingjian 黃庭堅, also known as Shangu 山谷, poet and calligrapher, 1045-1105. Commentary by REN Yuan 任淵. Imprint: N.p., n.d. [Keichō / Genna period, c. 1600-24] . No colophon. Description: 21 kan (1 kan 目録 + 20 kan 本文), formerly in 11 satsu, now rebound in 2 vols. western style. 28.6 x 20.5 cm. Fukurotoji. Movable type. Printing frame 21.8 x 17.5 cm. (average). Double-line borders all round. Vertical rules between columns. 'Flower petal' fishtail design on hanshin. Kanbun text, without printed kunten or reading marks. 8 lines to page (double for commentary), 17 characters to line. Original dark brown front covers of former satsu 1 (目録 + 年譜) and former satsu 6 (maki 9-10) only, with original printed title slips. Gedai: (1) 山谷 年譜; (2) 山谷 九•十. Title from naidai. Title at head of preface (preceding 本文, maki 1) : 黃陳詩集註 序. Hashiragaki: Sankoku 山谷 + maki no. + folio no. In a western style half-leather binding. Edition: Kokatsujiban no kenkyū identifies 9 distinct movable type editions of this work, 6 with commentary and 3 without, all undated. Of these, the present copy clearly belongs to the Keichō / Genna edition. These movable type editions follow an earlier blockprint of Nanbokuchō period, itself modelled on a Chinese edition of the Song period. Contents: Collected poems of Huang Tingjian (Shangu 山谷), compiled and edited with commentary by Ren Yuan 任淵 in the mid-12th century.
