Description: 2 kan, formerly in 2 satsu, now rebound in 1 vol. western style. (Maki 上) ff. 39; (maki 下) ff. 38. 257 x 183 mm. Fukurotoji. Blockprint. Printing frame 214 x 168 mm. Double-line borders. No fishtail design on hanshin. Hiragana-majiri text, with dakuten, kutōten and some furigana. 12 lines to page, 22-24 characters to line. Original dark brown covers of both satsu, with embossed design of peony flowers and lattice work. Original title slips on left with printed gedai: 大さか物語并くび帳 上 (下). Title from naidai at head of each maki. Hashiragaki: 大坂物語 上 (下) + folio no. In a western style cloth binding. Contents: A factual account of the siege of Ōsaka castle during two campaigns in winter 1614 and summer 1615, in which Tokugawa Ieyasu defeated Toyotomi Hideyori. The appendix entitled kubichō 首帳 follows the text proper on ff. 32-38 of maki 下.

- 1 volume Condition: Good, without worm damage or stains. Impression: Atozuri from worn blocks. Illustrations: 10 double-page and 4 single-page sumizuri woodcuts, distributed as follows: (maki 上) 6 double, 1 single; (maki 下) 4 double, 3 single. Some of the double-page illustrations are printed mihiraki, others on recto and verso of the same leaf. Seals of ownership: Octagonal British Museum stamp, MVSEVM BRITANNICVM, on first and last pages of each maki. Manuscript notes: Notes in Kaempfer's hand on many of the illustrations, identifying notable persons portrayed. Old shelfmarks, Pr: 27 and 28, on title slips.
