Double-line borders all round. Vertical rules between columns. 'Flower petal' fishtail design on hanshin. Kanbun text without printed kunten. 10 lines to page, 18 characters to line. Original dark brown front cover of satsu 1 only, with renewed title slip. Manuscript gedai: Shōgaku 1 小学一. Hashiragaki (of 本文) : Shōgaku shūsetsu 小學集説 + maki no. + folio no. In a modern western style half-leather binding. Edition: The only early movable type edition of this work, undated but printed in mid-Keichō period. A fine, elegant typeface, which clearly reflects the quality of the Korean edition, printed with bronze movable type, on which it is closely modelled. A copy of this Korean edition is also in the British Library (15229. d. 3). Contents: Confucian precepts for the guidance of young people, selected from the writings of sages, past and present. Text of the Xiaoxue 小學, edited by Zhu Xi, with commentary by Cheng Yu 程愈.

- 1 volume Condition: For the most part good, but badly water-stained in places and with minor worm damage (repaired) to first 8 folios. Cropped at upper margin. Impression: Sharp and clear. Type shows little or no sign of wear. Seals of ownership: Oblong black seal, Kojima-shi toshoki 小島氏圖書記 (seal of Kojima Naozane 小島尚眞), on first page of maki 1, 2, 3, 5, 6. Manuscript notes: Shikigo on mikaeshi, in a hand of Kan'ei period or earlier, reads: 文公小學只程愈先生集説 / 奇講日童蒙期會席月中二七 / 是其時. Short textual notes in a different hand, but of similar date, on endpaper following mikaeshi and on first folio of text. Katakana kunten and kaeriten in black ink, and some shubiki and kutoten in red, also written c. Kan'ei period or earlier, scattered throughout text.
