    • 4 volumes Condition: Generally good, but with minor worm damage (some repaired) in all maki. Impression: Atozuri, from moderately worn blocks. Seals of ownership: Oval red seal in hiragana script, Harima (播磨) Haruyama (春山) Himeji (姫路), written はりま / はるやま / ひめじ, on first page of each maki.

Scope and Content

Variant title: Kiyosuke fukuro-zōshi 清輔袋草紙. Variant title: Fukuro no sōshi 袋の草紙. Author/compiler: Fujiwara no Kiyosuke 藤原清輔, 1104-77. Imprint: N.p., Jōkyō 2, 1685. Kanki on fol. 41b of maki 4 reads: 貞享二年乙丑仲春吉辰. Publisher not named. Description: 4 kan, 4 satsu, in a box. (Maki 1) ff. 2 (目録), 35; (2) ff. 44; (3) ff. 53; (4) ff. 41. 26.8 x 17.2.cm. Fukurotoji. Blockprint. Printing frame 19.8 x 14.4 cm. (average). Single-line borders. White fishtail design on hanshin. Text in successive passages of kanbun (with printed okurigana and kaeriten), hiragana-majiri and katakana-majiri. 9 lines to page, 17 characters (kanbun) -21 characters (kana-majiri) to line. Original pale grey-blue covers, with original title slips on left. Printed gedai: Kiyosuke fukuro-zōshi 清輔袋草紙. Title from naidai at head of text of each maki. Hashiragaki: Fukuro 袋 + maki no. + folio no. Edition: First edition, but a later impression lacking name of publisher and place of publication. Kanki of copies in Daitōkyū and Ōsaka-fu contain the name of Nakagawa Mohē 中川茂兵衞 as publisher and Kyōto as place of publication. Another edition was published, according to Kokusho sōmokuroku 国書総目録, in the following year, Jōkyō 3 (1686). Contents: A work on the theory and practice of composing waka poetry and holding uta-awase 歌合, containing anecdotes about poets, quotations from poetical works, etc. Written in late-Heian period by one of the eminent poets of his day.
