Variant title: Shizoku taizen 氏族大全. Author/compiler: Unknown. Imprint: N.p., n.d. [late-Nanbokuchō or Muromachi period, i.e. late-14th-early 15th century] . No colophon. Description: 10 kan, formerly in 6 satsu, now rebound (with maki in incorrect order) in 1 vol. western style. Original division of the work was by the ten 'stems' (jikkan 十干), printed on first page of each maki and supplemented by numerical designation on hanshin of maki 4-10. Thus numbering and foliation are as follows: (satsu 1-甲集, maki 1) ff. 11 (綱目), 57; (satsu 2-乙 + 丙, maki 2-3) ff. 48, 42; (satsu 3-丁 + 戊, maki 4-5) ff. 51, 51; (satsu 4-己 + 庚, maki 6-7) ff. 42, 40; (satsu 5-辛集, maki 8) ff. 57; (satsu 6-壬 + 癸, maki 9-10) ff. 38, 15. 25.3 x 14.8 cm. Fukurotoji. Blockprint. Printing frame 18.4-19.4 x 12.5 cm. Thick, single-line borders all round, apart from double-lines at inner edge of some folios in maki 1. Vertical rules between columns. Fishtail design on hanshin. Kanbun text without kunten. Headings to each maki and throughout text printed inkoku. 16 lines to page, 28 characters to line. Fawn front cover, old but not original, of satsu 1 only, faintly embossed with a geometrical design. Title slip added mid-Edo period, with manuscript gedai: 氏族大全甲集. Title from naidai. Hashiragaki: maki no. (甲, 乙, 丙 (三), 四, 等) + folio no. In a western style half-leather binding. Edition: Gozan-ban, of which three variants, all printed from the same blocks, are distinguished : (1) earliest impression, without kanki; (2) later impression from the same blocks, with kanki dated Meitoku 4 (1393) inserted after closing title of maki 10. Kanki reads: 明德癸酉八月開板圓成; (3) post-1393 impression, in which the above kanki has been erased from the block. Judging from the worn state of the blocks and absence of kanki in the present copy, it can be assigned to the third of these groups, datable to c. 1400. Contents: A collection of brief biographical notes and incidents in the lives of famous people of the past, arranged under names in rhyme order.
