Administrative / Biographical History

Whitehead received the LSA in 1834. He was a surgeon at St. Mary's Hospital, and lectured on obstetrics and diseases of women at Chatham Street Medical School, Manchester, and later at Manchester Royal School of Medicine. With Auguste Merei, he established Manchester Clinical Hospital (Manchester Northern Hospital).
