The son of George Sidley, Insall Martin Sidley was known as Sidley. He was educated at Oxford University and St Bartholomew's Hospital, and held junior appointments at Wingfield Orthopaedic Hospital and Northampton General Hospital. Sidley entered general practice with his father in Eccles, and was honorary medical officer to Eccles and Patricroft Hospital and later physician to St Joseph's Home for Children, Patricroft.
