Robert Wild studied at Owens College medical school in Manchester and qualified LSA in 1884 and MRCS in 1885. He took the London MB in 1886 and the MD in 1887. He was registrar in pathology at MRI and lectured on the subject at Owens College. However Wild later specialised in pharmacology, and was professor of materia medica at the University of Manchester from 1901-27. Wild was a former dean of the medical school and a pro-vice-chancellor. Wild built his clinical reputation as a dermatologist, and was involved with the Manchester Hospital for Diseases of the Skin and the Christie Hospital Manchester.
