MA Aberdeen 1866, MB CM 1873, MD 1891.
Scott was born in Aberdeen in 1847 and was educated at Grammar School there and the University. He came to Manchester in 1876 and was in partnership with his brother, Benjamin Scott (MB CM Aberdeen 1882). In 1880, Scott was appointed physician to the Southern Hospital for Women and Children and to the Manchester Maternity Hospital. After the merger to form St Mary's, Scott continued working there until his retirement in 1918 due to an operation which left him unfit to continue work. Scott was a lecturer to midwives and examiner to the Central Midwives Board. He was also a founder member of the North of England Obstetrical and Gynaecological Society. His son, James Bethune Scott, was also a doctor (see above), who practised in Essex. On Scott's retirement, he went to live with his son, where he died in 1921.
