Sawdon gained his medical education at Owens College and was house surgeon to Rotherham Hospital before settling in general practice in Buxton where he was honorary physician to the Devonshire Hospital. Sawdon was a fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine and a fellow of the Royal Institute for Public Health. He died on 30 September 1938 aged 59.
