Taylor was a member of the Pharmaceutical Society before commencing medical studies at the age of twenty seven. After qualifying at the University of Manchester, Taylor was house physician to Bootle General Hospital and served in the RAMC in the Middle East. On his return to England, Taylor was appointed medical registrar to Crumpsall Hospital and from 1948 was chief assistant in the Cardiological Department at MRI. He was clinical tutor to Rochdale Area Health Authority and later consultant physician. Taylor was a fellow of Manchester Medical Society and was president of the Section of Medicine.
