Taylor studied medicine at the University of Manchester and was house surgeon to MRI and to St Mary's Hospital. He was later in practice in New Moston and then in Macclesfield, where he was divisional medical officer to Hawker Siddlely Aviation Limited. Taylor was a member of Manchester Medical Society.
